Ohio State will host Penn State Saturday for a spot in the championship game
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two goals in the third period lifted the No. 9/10 Ohio State men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin in game three of a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series in Nationwide Arena.
Ohio State, the No. 3 seed, advances to the semifinal, where it will host No. 5 seed Penn State in a single game at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena. The Nittany Lions swept No. 4 Michigan in Ann Arbor to advance. No. 1 seed Michigan State will host No. 7 Notre Dame in the other semifinal at 6 p.m. The Irish won in three games at No. 2 Minnesota. The Buckeyes are making a third consecutive appearance in the semifinal round.
The Buckeyes are now 23-12-2 on the year and the Badgers end their season 13-21-3. Ohio State was 6-1 against Wisconsin in 2024-25. This was the second year in a row Ohio State and Wisconsin met in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament; last season the No. 7 Buckeyes won the series in three games over the No. 2 seed Badgers in Madison.

A power play goal from Davis Burnside broke the tie at 9:37 of the third and Max Montes scored shortly after a penalty kill ended for a 3-1 Buckeye lead at 12:43. Wisconsin made it a one-goal game at 17:18 with an extra attacker goal but Ohio State closed out the victory. Buckeye goalie Logan Terness, playing his third game in three nights, had 29 saves in 59:24.

How it Happened
- The Wisconsin goalie turned the puck over behind the net and Ryan Gordon was able to get a stick on it, where it went to Jake Rozzi in front and he put it home for a 1-0 Buckeye lead at 6:02.
- The Badgers took advantage of an Ohio State penalty on the next shift, scoring four seconds into the advantage and 59 seconds after the Buckeye tally to tie the game at one.
- Shots were 7-5 in favor of Wisconsin in the first and each team had two power play chances.
- Neither team scored nor and no penalties were called in the second and Ohio State outshot Wisconsin 14-8 in the stanza.
- On their fifth power play of the game, the Buckeyes were able to break the deadlock. A Gunnarwolfe Fontaine shot was blocked, but Davis Burnside was there for the rebound at 9:37. Damien Carfagna also assisted on the goal, Burnside's 14th of the year.
- On the penalty kill, Max Montes was able to break through the Badger defenders and win a race to the puck for a breakaway, scoring on his own rebound at 12:43 (three seconds after the power play expired). The goal put the Buckeyes up 3-1.
- The Badgers pulled their goalie and drew within one at 17:18 on a Ryland Mosley tally.
- Wisconsin had its net empty for most of the remaining time, with two saves and two blocks securing the Ohio State win.
- The Badgers put 16 shots on net in third, with Ohio State getting nine on goal.
