Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s cross country teams are on the road to the 2017 NCAA Division I Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Louisville this Saturday (Oct. 14). The women will be running in the red seeded race while the men’s team will be running in the black unseeded race at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

In The Polls
Competing at the 2017 NCAA Division I Pre-Nationals Invitational will be 51 men’s and 54 women’s cross country squads. In the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, the Ohio State women’s sit just outside the top 30 and are receiving the most votes of any unranked team.
The women are currently ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region which puts them in the hunt for a berth to the NCAA Championships. This weekend, the Buckeyes will race against six teams ranked ahead of them for a chance at some quality wins.

Women: No. 4 Michigan, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 19 Utah State, No. 25 Georgia, No. 27 Yale and Eastern Kentucky (RV).
Men: No. 19 Georgetown, No. 27 Utah State and Eastern Kentucky (RV).
This will be the fourth meet of the year for the Buckeyes and they are coming off of an eighth-place finish at the Joe Piane Invitational. The top five Buckeyes all finished within 20 meters of each other and maintained an eight-second gap from the first finisher to the last finisher.
Scorers for the women at the 5k Joe Piane Invitational included Emily Stoodley (17:20.4), Lainey Studebaker (17:21.9), Sarah Kanney (17:24.0), Christine Frederick (17:26.2) and Abby Nichols (17:28.0).
At last year’s Pre National Invitational hosted in Terre Haute, Ind., Kanney was the top finisher for the women (63rd place) guiding the team to a 20th-place showing. Stoodley, Studebaker and Nichols were also scorers for the Buckeyes at last year’s Pre-Nationals.
The women will be covering a 6k course for the first time in 2017.
Heading into the 2017 NCAA Division I Pre-Nationals Invitational, the Buckeyes are coming off of a 21st-place finish at the Joe Piane Invitational. Jake Mandel recorded an 8k personal-best readout of 25:01.4 to pace Ohio State and claim 86th place in the race.
Evan Stifel was the leading man for the Buckeyes at last year's Pre Nationals placing 23rd in a field of 263 runners helping the team land a 15th-place finish. Mandel and Leitch also scored for Ohio State at the 2016 Pre-Nationals.
