COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s cross country team opened its 2014 season with a dominating performance at the Dayton Flyer 5k Challenge Saturday morning in Kettering, Ohio.

Ohio State totaled a team score of 19, placing eight runners in the Top 10. All five scorers for the Scarlet and Gray placed in the Top 6, led by senior All-American Katie Borchers, who claimed the individual title in a time of 18:20.0. Junior Minori Minagawa was third for the Buckeyes in a time of 18:33.5, followed by senior Michelle Thomas (fourth, 18:35.4) and juniors Tammy Berger (fifth, 18:40.0) and Sakiko Minagawa (sixth, 18:44.0).

"Our objective today was to run in control and as a pack," distance coach Sara Vergote said after the race. "The season is long but I'm very pleased with where we are currently at in terms of fitness and cohesiveness as a team."

Senior Nicole Hilton (seventh, 18:49.7), junior Helen Willman (eighth, 18:53.6) and sophomore Kaitlyn Willette (10th, 19:06.5) also finished in the Top 10 for the Buckeyes.
