COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior right side hitter Ashley Wenz picked up another postseason accolade by being tabbed as an All-America honorable mention, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Wednesday.
Ohio State has placed at least one player on the AVCA All-America list in seven consecutive seasons. Over the seven-year stretch, eight different Buckeyes have garnered All-America laurels under the guidance of head coach Geoff Carlston. The Scarlet & Gray has totaled 13 All-America honors during the Carlston era.
Since 1989, Ohio State was seen 20 different Buckeyes corral a total of 32 AVCA All-America awards.
Wenz, an AVCA All-Northeast Region selection and All-Big Ten honorable mention, thrived during her senior campaign. She started 29 of 31 matches for the Buckeyes and stood second on the team with 333 kills. She tallied double-digit kills in 18 contests and registered 137 digs, 81 blocks (8s, 73a) and 15 service aces. Wenz helped the Buckeyes to three straight NCAA Sweet 16s from 2014-2016. She also had a part in 85 Ohio State victories over the past four seasons, including 42 Big Ten wins.
