COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team makes its final bid for the postseason when it hosts Illinois on Saturday evening. The contest inside St. John Arena is slated for 7 p.m. ET. The Buckeyes will also recognize the accomplishments of its three seniors – Kalisha Goree, Luisa Schirmer and Ashley Wenz.

HISTORY WITH THE FIGHTING ILLINI
Illinois has a slight 42-38 edge in the all-time series with Ohio State. The two teams first met in 1974 and have split the last four contests down the middle, 2-2. Saturday’s match will be the second time the Fighting Illini and Buckeyes have faced each other during the 2017 season. Illinois secured a 3-0 win in Champaign back on Oct. 13.

A field of 334 NCAA member institutions sponsoring Division I Women’s Volleyball programs will be trimmed down to 64 teams to compete in the single-elimination NCAA Tournament coming to a crescendo with the Semfinals and Finals hosted in Kansas City. Thirty-two at-large selections to go along with the 32 schools receiving automatic qualification through conference championships will be announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
SCHIRMER NABS 1,000
At home in St. John Arena, senior outside hitter Luisa Schirmer joined the exclusive 1,000-kill club on Nov. 17 with 10 kills versus Nebraska.
BUCKEYES IN THE B1G
Hannah Gruensfelder bumped her average to 4.35 digs per set, which is good for fourth in the league. Taylor Hughes is also representing the Buckeyes with 10.25 assists per set (11th) while Lauren Witte averages 1.01 blocks per set (9th). Luisa Schirmer’s 3.23 kills per set comes in 14th. As a team, Ohio State stands fourth in digs per set (14.85).
The Fighting Illini are coming off a straight-set victory over Iowa on Wednesday night. Illinois has won its last two matches, including an upset of then-ranked No. 7 Minnesota.
