SCOOPING UP THE ACCOLADES
Rookie libero Hannah Gruensfelder is already leaving her mark, being named co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after setting an all-time Ohio State school record against Notre Dame. She earned the distinction thanks to her 38-dig performance, the most ever by a Buckeye in a four-set match. Gruensfelder also leads the conference with 5.03 digs per set.
HISTORY WITH THE FLYERS, HILLTOPPERS AND HUSKIES
Ohio State leads the all-time series with each of the visiting squads this weekend, owning a combined record of 25-11 versus Dayton, Northern Illinois and Western Kentucky. The tightest ledger comes against the Flyers, where OSU holds a 12-9 advantage and has won four straight matches. The Buckeyes are streaking past NIU as well, winners of 10 in a row with an overall mark of 10-2 (two losses back in 1973). Ohio State and the Hilltoppers have only met up three times, each ending in favor of the Scarlet and Gray.
BUCKEYE NATION SUPPORTS HURRICANE RELIEF FUND
After the Coastal Carolina Classic (scheduled for Sept. 8-9) was cancelled because of issues associated with Hurricane Irma, an impromptu home-and-home weekend series between Ohio State and Notre Dame was born. In lieu of charging admission to the match at St. John Arena on Sept. 8, OSU Athletics encouraged fans to donate to the Red Cross Hurricane
BUCKEYES IN THE TOP-25
The Big Ten is once again all over the American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches Poll, placing eight schools in the Top-25 this week. Ohio State comes in at No. 25 and has been a staple in the AVCA's final Coaches Poll in recent years and beyond:
OSU is one of only nine schools to appear in the final poll at least six times since 2010.
OSU is also one of only nine teams to finish the last three seasons ranked in the Top-25.
OSU has finished the year nationally-ranked Top-25 by the AVCA in 22 of 35 seasons, 10th most in the country.
