Leary Named Sports Imports/AVCA D1 Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Kaitlyn Leary of the No. 13 Ohio State women's volleyball team was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week, the AVCA announced Tuesday. The honor is the first for Leary and it is the eighth in program history.
Leary guided the Buckeyes to the Four Points by Sheraton Seminole Invitational title that included wins over Top 20 opponents on the same day. She finished the weekend with 66 kills over 12 sets played for a 5.50 average. For her efforts, Leary was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was awarded Big Ten Player of the Week Monday.
In the team's opening match Friday afternoon, Leary totaled her second double-double of the season with 20 kills and 10 digs against then-No. 16 Western Kentucky. She chipped in a career-best five block assists in the 3-2 win. Later that evening, Leary guided the Buckeyes to a 3-1 win over tournament host and then-No. 15 Florida State. She finished with a career-high 27 kills in the victory and added eight digs for the Buckeyes.
Leary closed out the tournament with 19 kills in Ohio State's sweep of Florida Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon.
The Parma, Ohio, product has totaled 20 or more kills in five of six matches played. She leads the Big Ten in both kills per set (5.40) and points (5.74).
Ohio State officially kicks off its home schedule this weekend, hosting the annual Sports Imports DC Koehl Classic, Sept. 13-14, in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes will welcome IUPUI, Southeast Missouri and Xavier to the two-day tournament. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Ohio State students are free with a valid Buck-ID.
