COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's volleyball team has released its 2012 fall schedule that includes four tournaments and 13 home matches. The Buckeyes will face 12 teams that competed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, including seven Sweet Sixteen teams.
"We chose to play a very strong non-conference schedule this year, likely one of the toughest in the country," head coach Geoff Carlston said. "With Oregon, Pepperdine, Florida State, Dayton and Western Kentucky on it, we wanted to prepare our group for the intensity they will see every night in the Big Ten."
Ohio State opens the season hosting its annual Sports Imports Classic, Aug. 24-25. The Buckeyes are set to welcome Houston, Toledo and Oregon to St. John Arena for the two-day tournament. The squad follows with tournament at Maryland (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), Western Kentucky (Sept. 7-8) and Houston (Sept. 14-15). In the team's final tournament at Houston, the Buckeyes will play NCAA Elite Eight competitors Florida State and Pepperdine.
The Scarlet and Gray opens Big Ten play at home, hosting Iowa and Nebraska, Sept. 21-22. Ohio State will play nine home and home series in the conference, while playing a single match vs. Michigan State in East Lansing and hosting Michigan in the regular season finale, Nov. 23.
