COLUMBUS, Ohio - Incoming freshman Valeria León of the Ohio State women's volleyball team was selected to the Puerto Rico Youth National Team that will compete at the U-20 FIVB Pan American Cup March 16-24 in Cuba.
The 2013 FIVA Pan American Cup is a qualifier for the 2013 U-20 FIVB World Championship held in the Czech Republic June 21-30. The world championships will feature 20 teams from all around the globe and is held every two years.
"I'm so happy to present Puerto Rico in this important tournament," León said. "The competition will be of the highest level here in Cuba and I want to help my team qualify for the World Championship."
León was chosen as the team's libero and joins current Big Ten student-athlete Daly Santana (Minnesota) on the national squad. León is a 5-6 defensive specialist from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and has also been a member of the Puerto Rico 14U and 16U teams.
