Ohio State Falls to No. 2 Penn State, 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's volleyball team fell to No. 2 Penn State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-8), Wednesday night in St. John Arena. The loss moved the Buckeyes to 17-14 overall and 5-14 in Big Ten play.
Senior Kaitlyn Leary finished with five kills, while freshman Taylor Sandbothe and sophomore Katie Mitchell had four apiece. Sophomore Andrea Kacsits and Sandbothe each had two blocks and senior Julianne Mandolfo finished with 10 digs. Senior Davionna DiSalvatore chipped in nine digs in the match.
Deja McClendon led the match with 11 kills and nine digs for the Nittany Lions (27-2, 18-1). Ariel Scott had eight kills and three blocks, while Katie Slay finished with seven kills and seven blocks. Setter Micha Hancock led the match with 28 assists and 14 digs.
A kill by Leary gave the Buckeyes an early 2-1 lead to start the first before the Nittany Lions put together a four-point rally for a 5-2 advantage. A kill from Mitchell and a service ace by Erin Sekinger cut the Penn State lead to one at 6-5, but the visitors used a 6-1 run to jump ahead 12-6. Another major run lifted the Nittany Lions to a 21-8 lead and the team took the first, 25-12.
A pair of three-point runs pushed PSU to a 6-2 advantage to open set two and another run forced a Buckeye timeout at 13-5 Penn State. With the Nittany Lions leading 22-9, a kill by Leary and a pair from Sekinger sent the Buckeyes on a late, but the comeback wasn't enough as Penn State captured the set, 25-14.
The Nittany Lions came out of intermission on a 14-1 run and pushed ahead for a 19-4 lead. Buckeye blocks set the score 19-7 before PSU went on to take the match with a 25-8 win.
Ohio State closes out the 2013 regular season at Iowa Saturday with an 8 p.m. ET match.
