No. 24 Ohio State Drops 3-0 Match at No. 2 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 24 Ohio State women's volleyball team capped a three-match Big Ten road swing at No. 2 Penn State Wednesday night, falling 3-0 (9-25, 11-25, 16-25) in Rec Hall. The Buckeyes moved to 14-7 overall and 2-7 in league play.
Senior Kaitlyn Leary finished with nine kills for the Buckeyes, while Valeria León led the Ohio State defense with nine digs. Sophomore Andrea Kacsits had three blocks and freshmen Taylor Sandbothe and Maggie Heim chipped in four kills.
Penn State was led by Deja McClendon with 10 kills and nine digs. Micha Hancock totaled 23 assists and 11 digs, while Nia Grant finished with six blocks. Ariel Scott ad Katie Slay added five blocks for PSU.
The Nittany Lions took a 7-1 lead to start the first set and jumped ahead 11-2. Another long PSU run led to a 17-6 lead and the home team captured set one, 25-9.
Kills from Heim and Leary tied the second set at three apiece. Another kill from Heim and one by Sandbothe brought the Buckeyes within one at 6-5 before a Nittany Lion run pushed PSU ahead at 10-5. Penn State closed out the set on a 10-1 run to take a 25-11 win into intermission.
A pair of kills from Leary gave Ohio State an early 2-1 lead in the third before a five-point PSU rally gave the Nittany Lions a 7-2 advantage, forcing an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes gained momentum late in the set with a kill from Leary and an Erin Sekinger /Kacsits block, cutting the PSU lead to seven at 19-12. The surge wasn't enough as the Nittany Lions went on to take the match with a 25-16 victory.
Ohio State returns to St. John Arena Friday, hosting No. 13 Nebraska at 7 p.m. ET. Admission for Friday's match is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Ohio State students are free with a valid Buck-ID.
