Ohio State Takes 3-0 Win over Seton Hall

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's volleyball team began the second day of the Maryland Invitational with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14) win over Seton Hall Saturday in the Comcast Pavilion in College Park, Md. Ohio State's offensive performance was on point, finishing with 56 kills to account for the team's 65 total points in the match.
Senior Mari Hole had an excellent day at the net, tallying 25 kills and finishing with a .443 attack percentage. She added seven digs and one solo block in the win. Classmate Emily Danks totaled 12 kills and had two service aces. Senior Mariah Booth connected on eight of her 10 attack attempts, tallying a .800 attack percentage.
The Pirates (3-1) were led by Simona Sekulova with seven kills, while Molly Grammer and Amanda Hansen had six apiece. Setter Shelbey Manthorpe finished with 19 assists and Alyssa Warren collected eight digs.
The two squads battled to a 7-7 tie to start the first set before Seton Hall pushed to a 10-7 lead. Kills from Hole, Andrea Kacsits and Danks locked the score at 10, but the Pirates took back their lead at 16-13. Seton Hall held on to its advantage until, down 20-22, the Buckeyes closed out the set on a five-point run highlighted by three kills from Hole to win 25-22.
Down a point early in the second, Ohio State went on a 4-0 rally for a 7-4 lead. Seton Hall tied the set at eight and the two teams exchanged points and the lead throughout the middle parts of the set. Up 17-16, a trio of kills by Hole gave the Buckeyes a 20-16 advantage and the team captured the set, 25-21.
Ohio State came out of intermission on fire, taking a 9-2 lead to start the final frame. A kill by Danks and a block from Booth and Katie Mitchell highlighted a four-point run to put the Buckeyes ahead, 18-8. Facing their second match point of the set, a kill from Kacsits gave the Buckeyes a 25-14 win.
Ohio State (4-1) faces host Maryland in the tournament finale Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Comcast Pavilion.
