Highlights from the past week in Ohio State Athletics
2015 (Sophomore Season): Played in all 35 matches and made 11 starts, including a stretch during Big Ten play of eight straight starts ... accumulated season totals of 177 digs, 92 kills, 24 service aces, 17 assists and 10 blocks ... came up huge in a road victory at `That School Up North' (10/24), responsible for 19 points on 16 kills and four blocks (2s, 2a) ... chipped in seven digs vs. the 23rd-ranked Wolverines as well ... also played a pivotal role in taking down No. 18 Purdue (10/16) with 11 points on six kills and five aces ... trend of stellar play in big wins began vs. No. 4 Nebraska (10/3), putting away nine kills and a solo stuff ... served as a primary passer all season, ranking second on the team with 436 service receptions ... tallied six double-digit dig contests ... picked up Academic All-Big Ten and OSU Scholar-Athlete recognition.
Summer 2015: Invited to train and compete as a member of the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT) in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships from June 21-29, 2015 in New Orleans, but chose not to participate in order to concentrate on heavy summer class workload.
2014 (Freshman Season): Made 25 starts during her first season on campus, playing in a total of 33 contests ... dug 261 balls at a 2.27 per set rate, both ranked second on the team ... accumulated 235 kills, 26 blocks and 22 service aces as well ... tallied double-digit digs 12 times and 10 or more kills on 11 occasions, picking up six double-doubles along the way ... named the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic's Most Outstanding Player (Sept. 5-7) after never leaving the floor and guiding the Buckeyes to the team title with 31 digs, 29 kills, five blocks and three aces ... racked up 17 kills in back-to-back Big Ten victories over Minnesota (11/26) and Rutgers (11/29) to close out the regular season ... started all three NCAA Tournament matches ... an OSU Scholar-Athlete.
Prior to Ohio State: An AVCA First Team All-American in 2013 ... named the 2012 New York State Gatorade Player of the Year ... three-year captain set Pittsford Sutherland High's all-time school records for career kills, blocks and service aces ... Ranked No. 32 in Prep Volleyball's Senior Aces list ... led Pittsford Sutherland H.S. to a pair of state finals appearances, including a title in 2010 playing alongside her sister, Selina ... Most Valuable Player of the '10 New York state championships and four-time Monroe Country Division-III MVP ... played last three seasons of club ball with Volley FX Magic ... won the NORCECA championships in Mexico as a member of the 2012 USA Volleyball Youth National Team.
Personal: Daughter of Barbara and Michael Schirmer ... has two sisters, Kaja and Selina ... Kaja played volleyball at the University of Buffalo (2011-13) and the University of New Hampshire (2010) while Selina played volleyball at Samford University (2011-14) ... an engineering major.
