COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the Ohio State track and field team are set to represent Team USA at the 2016 IAAF U-20 World Championships this July, the most of any university nationwide. Nick Gray, Karrington Winters and Sade Olatoye secured spots on the American team following stellar showings at the 2016 USATF Junior Championships this past weekend in Clovis, Calif.
Gray, a four-event Big Ten champion and five-event All-American for the Buckeyes as a freshman, finished second in the men’s 100-meter dash in a time of 10.32 seconds. The rising sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, posted a personal-best time of 10.28 in preliminary heats, the third-fastest time in school history.
Winters, a rising sophomore from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, placed second overall in the women’s 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 53.34 seconds. Winters was a Second Team All-American as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team during the outdoor season.
Olatoye, a rising sophomore from Dublin, Ohio, was runner-up in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 60.58 meters (198-9.00). She also finished fifth in the shot put (15.09 meters/49-6.00) and seventh in the discus (personal-best mark of 50.77 meters/166-6.75). Olatoye was a point scorer for the Buckeyes at the Big Ten indoor and outdoor championships as a freshman.
Gray, Winters and Olatoye will be joined at the IAAF U-20 championships by teammate Bliss Soleyn. Soleyn, a rising sophomore, will represent her native Antigua. Sebastiaan Roelants, a rising sophomore, vies for a spot on Team Belgium this weekend.
Three other Buckeyes competed at the USATF junior championships alongside Gray, Winters and Olatoye:
