Outdoor Competition Begins for Buckeyes in Atlanta

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's track and field team’s 2014 outdoor season gets underway with the Yellow Jacket Invitational this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, in Atlanta, Ga. Competition takes place at George C. Griffin Track on the campus of Georgia Tech.

Last Time Out – 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships
Redshirt senior Ashlee Abraham, the lone competitor for the Ohio State women’s track and field team at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships, placed 16th in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries Friday evening at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., earning Second Team All-America honors in the process.
Abraham, a native of Detroit, Mich., crossed the finish line in a time of 7.49 seconds, taking eighth place in her heat and 16th overall. Abraham enjoyed an outstanding indoor season for Ohio State, winning the Big Ten title in the 60-meter dash and finishing sixth in the 200 meters on her way to First Team All-Big Ten honors.
Ohio State Ranked 57th in USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings
The Buckeyes come in at No. 57 in the preseason edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Computer Rankings released March 25.
Ohio State is one of eight Big Ten teams ranked in the top 60, including Penn State checking in at No. 17, No. 30 Michigan State, No. 33 Illinois, No. 46 Indiana, No. 55 Nebraska, No. 56 Purdue and No. 58 Wisconsin.
Texas A&M is the top-ranked team according to the USTFCCCA rankings, followed by No. 2 Oregon and third-ranked Texas.
Ten Athletes Set to Join Buckeyes for 2014-2015 Season
Ohio State women’s track and field/cross country head coach Karen Dennis announced Monday the addition of 10 student-athletes to the Buckeye roster for the 2014-2015 school year.
Highlighting the class is four-time Virginia state champion hurdler Chantel Ray, the Virginia state meet-record holder in the 100-meter hurdles currently ranked in the Top 5 nationally, and Olivia Small, the 2013 OHSAA Division I state outdoor champion in the long jump and 2014 indoor state champion in the long and triple jumps from Big Walnut High School. Other Ohio state champions include Allyson Simmons, the 2013 OHSAA Division ll outdoor champion and 2014 indoor state champion and record holder in the pole vault, and Beatrice Hannan, the 2014 OATCCC Division I indoor state champion in the 200 meters and runner up in the 60 meters. Joining Ray, Small, Simmons and Hannan as Buckeye commits are distances runners Courtney Clody, Christine Frederick, Erin Gyurke, Molly Pusateri, and Olivia Smith, and throws prospect Kate Deaton.
