COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Alexis Thomas placed 12th overall in the hammer throw finals Wednesday evening at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The Huber Heights, Ohio, native cleared 61.71m (202-6.00) on her first attempt to collect Second Team All-America honors. Thomas concludes her Buckeye career as a three-time All-American, two-time Big Ten champion and school-record holder in the event. Arizona State's Chelsea Cassulo won the national title at 69.12m (226-9.00).
Also in action Wednesday was the Buckeye 4x100m relay team in semifinal heats. Seniors Christienne Linton and Ashlee Abraham, junior Adenike Pedro and sophomore Aisha Cavin combined for a 10th-place overall time of 44.72, good for Second Team All-America honors. Texas A&M turned in the top time of the eight qualifying teams for Saturday's final, crossing the finish line in 42.84.
Closing day one for the Buckeyes was sophomore Katie Borchers in the 800m semifinals. A native of Russia, Ohio, Borchers completed her race in a time of 2:08.43, placing 18th overall and earning Honorable Mention All-America in the process. The All-America award is a first for Borchers, the Ohio State-record holder in the event.
Competition resumes tomorrow with Abraham running in the 200m semifinals at 4 p.m. PT.
