DMR Sets School Outdoor Record at Drake Relays

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Distance Medley team – sophomore Tammy Berger, sophomore Alexis Franklin, freshman Rachel Weber and junior Katie Borchers – combined for a school outdoor-record time of 11:31.05 Saturday afternoon at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, highlighting the final day of competition for the Buckeyes.
The foursome’s time was the fourth-fastest in Ohio State history – indoor times included – and was good for a sixth-place finish overall. Washington won the DMR title in 11:09.59.
The 4x100-meter relay team – sophomore Aliyah Everson, senior Ashlee Abraham, freshman Aaliyah Barnes and senior Adenike Pedro – placed second in a closely contest race with Big Ten rival Iowa. The Buckeyes crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 44.52 seconds, a tenth of a second behind the first-place Hawkeyes. The time ranks fourth in OSU history and among the Top 25 in Division I this season.
Abraham was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.73. Jura Levy of Oklahoma Baptist took the title in 11.63 seconds.
The Buckeyes’ 1600-meter Sprint Medley team finished just shy of a school-record time, finishing fifth overall in 3:52.56. North Dakota State was first in a time of 3:47.73.
Ohio State returns to action next weekend, May 2-3, at the Dave Rankin Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
