Buckeyes Place Third at the LSU Battle on the Bayou

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team placed third overall at the LSU Battle on the Bayou Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge, La.
The Buckeyes finished the day with a team score 109.5. Host and eighth-ranked LSU was the team champion with 180 points, followed by 10th-ranked Kansas (133 points). Fourth-place went to No. 13 UCLA (98.5).
Senior Ashlee Abraham was the top performer for the Scarlet and Gray, posting outstanding marks in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Abraham, a native of Detroit, was the runner-up in the 100 meters in a season-best time of 11.38 and the fourth-place finisher in the 200 meters in a personal-best time of 23.33. Abraham’s 100-meter time was a tenth of a second shy of a personal best in the event and the eighth-best time in Division I this season, while her 200-meter time ranks fifth in Division I for 2014.
Sophomore Alexis Franklin and freshman Aaliyah Barnes continued their outstanding starts to the outdoor season, cruising to first-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash, respectively. Franklin posted a season-best time of 58.65 in the long hurdles, while Barnes crossed the 400-meter finish line in 53.58 seconds. Franklin’s winning time ranks seventh in Division I this season.
Ohio State dominated the 3000-meter run, claiming first and third in the event. Junior Michelle Thomas captured first place in a meet-record time of 9:43.60, while sophomore Helen Willman was third in 9:56.94.
Other highlights for the Buckeyes:
Ohio State finished 5-6 in the event. Fifth place went to junior Alexandria Johnson in 13.80, while Franklin placed sixth in 13.89.
Sophomore SoSo Walker was third in a personal-best time of 2:09.99.
OSU placed two athletes in the Top 5. Junior Katie Borchers used a PR of 4:26.48 – the third-best time in school history – to place fourth, while sophomore Tammy Berger finished fifth in a personal-best time of 4:30.01.
Runner-up honors went to junior Nicole Hilton in a time of 10:34.11.
Senior Adenike Pedro placed fourth with a jump of 5.80 meters (19-0.50).
A mark of 12.02 meters (39-5.25) helped senior Bianca Walton to third place.
