COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team concluded competition at the season-opening UCF Invitational Saturday afternoon at the UCF Track and Field Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Here’s an event-by-event breakdown of the Buckeyes’ trip south:
A collegiate-best time of 11.42 – fourth best in school history – earned Chesna Sykes a third-place finish in the 100m dash behind unattached competitor Simone Facey (11.32) and Tiffany McReynolds of Baylor (11.42). Madison McNary turned in an eighth-place time of 11.71 for the Scarlet and Gray.
Alexandria Johnson took sixth for OSU in a time of 13.82. McReynolds of Baylor placed first in 13.04.
Runner-up honors went to Nyjah Cousar in a time of 59.93, while All-American Christina Manning placed sixth in 1:01.24. Baylor’s Christina Holland was the victor in 59.67.
Shaniqua McGinnis was ninth in 2:12.15. Brittany OgunMokun of Baylor took first in (2:06.92).
Michelle Thomas (4:43.74) and Nicole Hilton (4:45.78) place sixth and ninth, respectively, for the Buckeyes. Albany’s Kathryn Fanning was first in 4:30.79.
Ashley Galbraith finished in a three-way tie for second at 1.73m (5-8) behind Maryland’s Amber Melville.
A mark of 12.60m (41-4.25) helped Kelcey McKinney
to sixth place behind Clemson’s April Sinkler (13.12m/43-0.50).
McNary, Manning, Sykes and Christienne Linton placed third overall in a time of 43.88, second best in school history. Clemson was first (43.50) and UCF second (43.58).
The Buckeye team of McGinnis, Cousar, Kachay Hullum and Jackie Dim finished fifth in 3:39.72. One Goal Athletics was first in 3:28.03.
Ohio State travels to Tucson, Ariz., next Saturday for the Jim Click Shootout.
