Abraham Wins Big Ten 60-Meter Title; Buckeyes Finish Sixth Overall

GENEVA, Ohio - Senior Ashlee Abraham won a Big Ten title in the 60-meter dash Saturday at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships at SPIRE Institute, helping the Ohio State women's track and field team to a sixth-place team finish.
Abraham, with a winning time of 7.31 seconds, edged defending champion Mahogany Jones of Penn State (7.32) at the wire to claim the first individual conference title of her career. She was joined in the Top 7 by fellow seniors Alycia Prior (sixth, 7.49) and Adenike Pedro (seventh, 7.50).
Penn State captured the team title with 114.5 points. The Buckeyes closed the meet with 51 points, two points behind fifth-place Purdue.
Other day two highlights for OSU:
Junior Alexandria Johnson placed sixth overall in a time of 8.40 seconds. Cindy Ofili of Michigan was first overall in a facility-record time of 8.08.
Abraham followed up her win in the 60 meters with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter in a season-best time of 23.86. Freshman Aliyah Barnes placed eighth in 23.95. Jones of Penn State was victorious in 23.10.
Barnes raced to a fourth-place time of 54.12. Penn State's Kiah Seymour was first in 52.53 seconds.
Sophomore SoSo Walker placed fourth overall in a personal-best time of 1:29.61, the third-best run in school history in the event. Alena Brooks of Minnesota was the winner in Big Ten-record time of 1:26.73.
A season-best time of the 2:07.70 helped junior Katie Borchers to a fifth-place finish. Ahlivah Spencer of Illinois earned the gold medal in 2:06.53.
Junior Abie Ehimwenman followed up her silver medal in the long jump from Friday with an eighth-place and personal-best jump of 12.35 meters (40-6.25). Tori Franklin of Michigan State won the Big Ten title with a conference-record jump of 13.56 meters (44-5.75).
A season-best and school indoor-record time of 3:37.16 from the Buckeye team of Walker, Barnes, Johnson and freshman Indya Slaughter was good for a fifth-place finish. Penn State capped its conference title with a win in final race of the day, crossing the finish line in 3:34.55.
