Buckeyes Complete Day One at SPIRE Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team competed at the SPIRE NCAA Division I Team Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, Friday afternoon.
The highlight of the first day of competition was a first-place finish by sophomore SoSo Walker in the 600-meter run. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native completed her race in a time of 1:32.03, just ahead of Michigan’s Jamie Morrissey (1:32.79).
Other day one highlights for the Buckeyes:
Freshman Aaliyah Barnes turned in a runner-up time of 24.20 behind Michigan State’s Alicia Evans (24.19).
Runner-up honors went to junior Alexandria Johnson in a time of 56.41. Desiree Garland of Akron was first overall in 55.85.
Sophomore SoSo Walker captured first place in 1:32.03, just ahead of Michigan’s Jamie Morrissey (1:32.79).
A time of 16:48.00 helped junior Michelle Thomas to fourth place. Erin Finn of Michigan took first place in a facility-record time of 15:57.32.
OSU finished 2-3 in the event. Sophomore Emily Schwartz was the runner-up at 3.50 meters (11-5.75), while freshman Grace Ashworth placed third at 3.35 meters (10-11.75). Buffalo’s Taylor Bates was first overall with a vault of 3.65 meters (11-11.75).
Sixth place went to senior Emily Taylor (18.48 meters/60-7.75). Akron’s Brittany Funk was the winner with a throw of 20.85 meters (68-5.00).
Events resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.
