South Bend, Ind. – Anavia Battle collected her second first-place finish of the weekend on Saturday afternoon at the Meyo Invitational in the 60m dash with a career-best readout of 7.46 to edge a field of 23 athletes.
Battle, a freshman from Wayne, Mich., had herself the finest weekend of her young Buckeye career, winning titles in the 60m dash (7.46) and 200m dash (23.79). Both of her winning marks are personal bests and the time of 7.46 ranks as the third-fastest time in the Big Ten.
Madison Roberts became the second pole vaulter of the weekend to re-up her school record in the event. On Saturday, Roberts cleared 4.02m (13-2.25) to earn a third-place finish (second collegiately) and improve her school record. She holds both the indoor and outdoor school records.
Sophomore Alex Lomong earned a first-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:50.16; he edged Bradley’s Alec Hartman (1:50.32) by .16 seconds. The win for Lomong was his second of the weekend as well; on Friday night, he was the third leg of Ohio State’s distance medley relay that claimed gold.
Chantel Ray continued her impressive senior campaign in the hurdles with a second-place finish overall in the 60m hurdle finals clocking a time of 8.32. Ray was the top collegiate finisher only registering a slower time than professional Devynne Charlton (8.05).
Christine Frederick shaved nearly 11 seconds off of her prior personal best in the 3,000m run with a time of 9:24.77 to garner a third-place showing. The time of 9:24.77 ranks as the second fastest time to be run in program history.
Maggie Barrie clocked the 16th-fastest 400m dash time in America with a 53.51 to register a second-place finish in a field of 55 athletes. Barrie (No. 16) and Karrington Winters (No. 11) both own top-20 marks in the NCAA in 2018 in the event.
In the women’s 800m run, Aziza Ayoub clocked the fifth-fastest time in school history with a personal-best time of 2:08.96 to finish in sixth place. Her time of 2:08.96 was 4.23 seconds quicker than her previous collegiate best.
