COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track and field team officially opened its season on Friday with the Buckeye Classic. The Buckeyes started the season strong with 11 first-place finishes in front of a hometown crowd at French Field House competing against runners from Wright State, Ohio University, the NAIA's Shorter, and several unattached athletes from the area.
Christina Manning started her senior season off by crossing the line first in the 60m dash (7.40) and 60m hurdles (8.19)
In field events, Maggie Mullen led a top 3 sweep in the weight throw with a mark of 19.15m (62-10). Kelcey McKinney and Rachael Mack had identical leaps of 12.17m (39-11.25) in the triple jump to lead the way for Ohio State top 4 finish.

Ohio State swept the race taking the first five places. Manning was joined in the top 5 by Chesna Sykes (7.48), Christienne Linton (7.57), Adenike Pedro (7.65) and Aisha Cavin (7.75).
Linton (8.64) followed Manning for the Buckeyes with a third-place finish.
Cavin ran a time of 24.32 to take first. Alexandria Johnson (25.63) and Pedro (25.64) rounded out the top 5 placing third and fourth, respectively.
With a time of 56.30, Shaniqua McGinnis took first in the 400m dash. McGinnis was followed by Jackie Dim (58.31), who placed second.
The Scarlet and Gray went 1-2 with Janel Olberding (1:38.36) leading the way. Taylor James (1:40.30) took second.
Freshmen Katie Betts (2:18.12) and Katie Borchers (2:18.81) went 1-2 in the 800 for the Buckeyes.
Freshman Caroline Murray placed second in her first meet as a Buckeye with a time of 5:12.63. Senior Sarah Lowe (5:22.04) and freshman Michelle Thomas (5:25.06) placed in the top 5 for Ohio State taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Ohio University's Juli Accurso won the mile in 5:00.28.
Mallory Kreider (10:22.87) crossed the line for second and Lowe collected a fourth-place finish (10:36.94).
Clearing the bar at 1.72m (5-7.75) for first was Ashley Galbraith. Freshman Jordan Moxley took third (1.57m/5-1.75).
Norianna Brown used a mark of 13.92m (45-8) to take first. Mullen (12.88m/42-3.25) and Alexandra Troester (12.32m/40-05) placed third and fifth, respectively.
Alexis Thomas (18.34m/60-02) came in second and Katie Groseclose took third (16.05m/52-08).
With a leap of 5.89m (19-04), Pedro captured gold in the long jump. Linton (5.88m/19-03.5) and Kelcey McKinney (5.87m/19-03.25) placed second and third, respectively, for an Ohio State sweep of the top 3. Junior Rachael Mack took fifth with a mark of 5.74m (18-10)
Freshman Abie Ehimwenman (12.01m/39-5) and Ashley Woodruff (11.59m/38-0) took third and fourth, respectively.
Stephanie Zimmerman placed second clearing the bar at 3.05m (10-0). Wright State's Jessica Berry claimed first clearing the bar at 3.20m (10-06).
Shorter's relay team finished first in 3:57.95. Ohio State's `D' team consisting of Woodruff, McGinnis, Cavin and Betts took second (4:02.28). McKinney, Sykes, Dim and Borchers combined for the `C` team that placed third (4:03.35) and Galbraith, Nyjah Cousar, James and Ehimwenman made up the `A' team that finished fourth in 4:04.52.
The Buckeyes will host Michigan in "The Dual" meet on Jan. 14 at French Field House. Events start at 11 a.m.
