COLUMBUS, Ohio - Francesca DiLorenzo, currently ranked as the nation's No. 1 player by tennisrecruiting.net, has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career as a member of the Ohio State women's tennis team, Buckeye head coach Melissa Schaub announced.
"I am so excited to be a part of this team and I hope to contribute to Ohio State's success," DiLorenzo, from New Albany, Ohio, said.
A five star recruit, DiLorenzo, represented the United States playing at No. 1 singles in the Maureen Connolly Cup vs. Great Britain in New Haven, Conn., and advanced to the round of 32 in the main singles draw of the US Open Junior Tennis Championship this August. This past summer, DiLorenzo won the Plantation ITF singles draw, the USTA National Selection Tournament singles draw and was crowned the singles and doubles champion of the USTA Midwest Outdoor Closed Championships in Indianapolis this June.
"Francesca is a Buckeye through and through," Schaub said. "She is the type of kid that will leave her heart on the court for her team and this university. She is an extremely tough competitor and will help take this program to the next level."
DiLorenzo also captured the state doubles championship in 2012 for New Albany High School and was named to the All-Ohio Division I doubles first team by the Ohio Tennis Coaches' Association in the same year.
