COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State women’s tennis team combined for a 5-1 singles record on day two of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The tournament concludes Sunday.
In consolation play, senior Gabby Steele was 2-0 to lead the Buckeyes, coming from behind to beat BYU’s Desirae Tran in three sets and defeating Arizona State’s Joanna Smith in straight sets. Redshirt freshman Nicole Flower rallied for a three-set victory over BYU’s Mackenna Maddox. Senior Fidan Manashirova topped Cal’s Kelly Chui and classmate Kara Cecil defeated USD’s Alexandra Victorsson in straight sets.
In doubles, the senior tandem of Manashirova and Cecil beat BYU’s Sheehan-Dizon and Tran in a tiebreaker, 9-8.
