Action Continues on Day Two of Akron Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Action continued at the Akron Invitational Saturday as the Ohio State women's tennis team faced Cornell in doubles competition and West Virginia in singles competition. The Buckeyes notched five singles wins and two doubles victories on the day at LaTuchie Tennis Center in the hidden dual tournament.
The freshmen duo of Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis collected an 8-1 win over Cornell's Marika Cusick and Laila Judeh, 8-1, while the Buckeye tandem of Nicole Flower and Noelle Malley defeated Ryann Young and Sara Perelman, 8-4. Playing at the No. 1 position, Miho Kowase and Grâinne O'Neill fell in a tiebreaker to Lauren Frazier and Alex D'Ascenz, 8-7 (4).
In singles competition vs. West Virginia, the Buckeyes claimed five of their six matches. De Santis defeated Hailey Barrett, 6-5 (6), 6-1, on court one, while O'Neill notched a 6-2, 6-4, victory against Vivan Tsui at the No. 3 position. Flower tallied her second singles victory of the weekend over Kyja Kurtnick (WVU) 6-1, 6-3.
Kowase tabbed her first career singles victory against Ikttesh Chahal, 6-2, 6-5 (5), while freshmen Ferny Angeles Paz notched a win in her Buckeye debut, 6-4, 6-5 (4). Noelle Malley fell to Kaja Mrgole, 6-5 (4), 6-0.
The Scarlet and Gray will take on West Virginia at 12 p.m. in doubles competition and Akron in singles competition to close out the Akron Invitational Sunday.
