COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State senior Monica Rincon (Lapeer, Mich./West) has been named to the 2002 Women's Tennis All-Big Ten team, the conference today announced. This marks the third consecutive year Rincon received all-conference honors.
Rincon, the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for March, plays at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Buckeyes this season. She is first on the team with 25 singles wins, including a mark of 18-4 at No. 1 singles this spring. In doubles, Rincon has amassed 23 wins. She is ranked 68th in the nation in singles and has been as high as 51st this year. Rincon and partner Meaghan Colville are 54th in the nation in doubles.
Rincon's singles win against Indiana gave her 100 for her career, making her just the second Buckeye in program history to reach the 100-win mark. Her career record now stands at 101-45, just three wins short of the school record of 104 set by her former doubles partner Kristy Dascoli (1998-01).
The Buckeyes now must wait to see if they receive a bid to the 2002 NCAA Championships. Brackets will be announced at 7 p.m. Thursday. Individual qualifiers also will be announced then. The Buckeyes have qualified for the national tournament each of the last three seasons.
