Senior Spotlight: Kara Cecil, Fidan Manashirova, Gabby Steele

In the past four seasons, the senior trio of Kara Cecil, Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele has compiled an overall record of 55-47 and 19-21 record in the Big Ten. The seniors were members of the highest ranked squad in Ohio State history, the No. 17-ranked 2009-10 team, which captured an all-time high 20 wins and tied for third in the Big Ten.
Kara Cecil has recorded 47 career singles wins and 49 career doubles victories. After being limited to only five matches her freshman year, Cecil earned a 3-0 singles record and 2-0 doubles ledger in spring dual matches. The Plant City, Fla., native received the Most Improved Award after notching 21 singles and 17 doubles wins in her sophomore season, including a team-high nine singles victories in the fall campaign. The ITA Scholar-Athlete notched 15 doubles wins her junior season and has recorded 12 singles wins and 14 doubles victories in her senior season. Off the court, Cecil has been recognized as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, ITA Scholar-Athlete, two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
Fidan Manashirova has compiled an 88-37 career singles record to place her in fifth place all-time for career singles wins at Ohio State as well as fifth all-time in career singles win percentage at .704. Hailing from Elk Grove, Calif., Manashirova was named the team’s co-MVP her sophomore and junior year after posting a 14-match singles win streak while only dropping two sets en route to a 27-win season in 2010 and notching a team-high .771 singles winning percentage in 2011. In her senior season, the Ohio State Scholar-Athlete leads the Buckeyes with 23 singles wins and has posted 14 doubles wins.
Gabby Steele has tallied a career 89-44 singles record to rank fourth in all-time career singles wins. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has posted 20 or more wins in each season as a Buckeye and sits in 11th place all-time with a .669 career singles win percentage. Steele shared co-MVP honors as a junior after leading the squad with 21 wins. In 2010, the two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice notched a team-high .741 singles percentage and .676 doubles percentage. In her senior season, the four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete has recorded 22 wins and ties for a team-high 17 doubles wins.
