COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the spring campaign approaches, freshman Miho Kowase shares her thoughts on the fall slate and the upcoming spring season for the Buckeyes. The Tokyo, Japan, native and the Ohio State women’s tennis team is set to open the season Jan. 18 with a doubleheader vs. Baylor and Prairie View A&M in Waco, Texas.
What was your favorite memory of the fall season?
“My favorite memory was when I went to Los Angeles, Calif., for the Jack Kramer Invitational and stayed with a family there."
What goals have you made for the upcoming spring season?
“My goals are to work as hard as I can and try my best to win every match.”
What has been the biggest surprise in transitioning from high school to Ohio State?
“I was surprised by how huge the Ohio State is!”
What has been the best piece of advice you have received from coaches, teammates, siblings or parents as you prepare for the season?
“Believe in yourself.”
Outside of tennis, what are some of your favorite activities to do as a team?
“My favorite things to do with the team are our team dinners and watching football games with all my teammates.”
What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your tennis career so far (before or during Ohio State career)?
“I would say playing at Wimbledon was my biggest accomplishment.”
What has stood out to you about your classes and the culture of Ohio State?
“It was interesting that I studied about cinemas. I was surprised how crazy people get for football games.”
Are there any opponents or tournaments you are especially looking forward to playing in this spring?
Favorite TV show or last show you watched on Netflix? Pretty Little Liars
Favorite movies? Frozen, Hunger Games, The Blind Side, Tangled and Soul Surfer!
Favorite athlete? Ichiro Suzuki, Mao Asada and Martina Hingis
Favorite athletic memory? When I played at the Gland Slams
Favorite Ohio State memory? Traveling with the team.
Favorite place on campus? Thompson Library and Ohio Union.
Favorite meal? Pizza, Sushi and anything sweet!
Dream job? A professional tennis player.
Most interesting place you have visited? Paris, Hilton Head Island, Okinawa.
I would like to trade places for a day with? Roger Federer!
If you could have dinner with three people (living or not), who would you choose? Taylor Swift, Novak Djocovic and Edison!
