COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team wrapped up the first day of play at the ASU Thunderbird Friday in Tempe, Ariz. Play continues through Sunday.
In the round of 32, Buckeye redshirt freshman Nicole Flower defeated BYU’s Aubrey Paul in straight sets, while senior Fidan Manashirova topped San Diego’s Marta Stojanovic, 6-3, 7-6 (6). The tandem was eliminated in the round of 16, with Flower falling to the tournament’s top seed, No. 31-ranked Tayler Davis of California, and Manashirova dropping her match vs. Arizona State’s Stephanie Vlad.
In doubles, the Buckeye tandem of Flower and Steele lost to the host Sundevils Joanna Smith and Leighann Sahagun, 8-2.
All four Buckeyes will be in action Saturday in the consolation draws.
