Play Continues at Jack Kramer Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team continued play in the Jack Kramer Invitational at The Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., Friday. Freshman Ferny Angeles Paz and Gabby DeSantis both advanced to the main draw quarterfinals, while DeSantis and classmate Miho Kowase reached the doubles quarterfinals.
Play continues through Sunday with singles and doubles main draw and consolation matches.
DeSantis, the No. 12 seed, defeated Michaela Capannolo of Pepperdine in the Round of 16 before falling to No. 6 seed Yuki Chiang from Pepperdine in three sets in the quarterfinals. Angeles Paz won in straight sets vs. Luisa Ortiz of UCSB in the Round of 16 but was eliminated by No. 9 seed Gabby Desimone of USC in three sets in the quarterfinals.
DeSantis and Kowase won easily vs. Fotopoulos and Sirilova of TCU, 8-1, to open doubles play and will compete in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Freshman Sandy Niehaus and sophomore Grainne O’Neill both have advanced to the singles consolation semifinals. Both won in three sets in the third round. In the quarterfinals. Niehaus topped Courtney Dohehide of UCLA in straight sets (6-4, 6-4), while O’Neill came from a set down to win in a super tiebreaker vs. Miya Jin of Loyola Marymount, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
