Buckeyes Open Jack Kramer Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's tennis team opened play in the Jack Kramer Invitational at The Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. Freshmen Ferny Angeles Paz and Gabby DeSantis led the way for the Buckeyes, advancing to the round of 16, while Sandy Niehaus, Grainne O'Neilland Angeles Paz all were winners in the Round of 64.
Play continues with main draw and consolation singles and doubles Friday, with the final day of matches Sunday. There is no tournament action Saturday.
Angeles Paz topped UCSB's Stacey Yam in straight sets in the round of 64 and then defeated No. 14 see Courtney Dolehide of UCLA, 6-4, 6-4. After a first-round bye, No. 12 seed DeSantis topped Loyola Marymount's Kristine Kouyoumijan, 6-0, 6-1.
Freshman Sandy Niehauswon in three sets vs. TCU's Maria Sirilova in the opening round before falling to No. 2 seed Ale Granillo of Pepperdine in the round of 32. Sophomore Grainne O'Neille defeated Seda Arantekin of TCU to open play, dropping just three games, before losing to No. 13 seed Shain Blecher of San Diego in the second round.
Noelle Malley and Miho Kowaseboth had first-round byes before bowing out in the second round. Malley lost to top seed Stefanie Tan of TCU, while Kowase lost in three sets to No. 7 seed Kaitllin Ray of UCLA, who is ranked No. 79 nationally.
