Ohio State Completes Tennessee Fall Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's tennis team completed the Tennessee Fall Invite Sunday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center, collecting five singles and two doubles victories on the final day of competition. The Buckeyes combined for 13 singles wins and eight doubles victories, claiming eight of their nine doubles matches on the weekend.
Sandy Niehaus, Miho Kowase and Noelle Malley went 3-0 vs. opponents in singles competition this weekend, while the Buckeye duo of Ferny Angeles Paz and Malley and the pair of Grainne O’Neill and Niehaus posted a 3-0 record in doubles outings.
Freshman Gabriella De Santis collected her first career singles victory vs. a ranked opponent defeating No. 45 Joelle Kissel of NC State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, on court one. Niehaus collected her third win of the tournament against Liza Fieldsand in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Angeles Paz topped Elisha Hand in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Malley claimed a 6-0, 6-3, win vs. Sophie Nelson on court six. At the No. 2 position, Kowase tabbed a 6-0, 6-3, victory against Nicole Martinez. O’Neill dropped her match to Christy Sipes, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles competition vs. host Tennessee, the Buckeyes captured two of three doubles matches. Niehaus and O’Neill notched a 8-0 victory vs. Laurence Guervemont and Brittany Lindl, while Malley and Angeles Paz teamed up to defeat Tiffany Tavares and Victoria Olivarez, 8-6. The freshman tandem of De Santis and Kowase fell to the No. 56th-ranked pair of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams, 8-6, on court one.
The Buckeyes will close out the fall campaign at the Jack Kramer tournament Nov. 8 in Los Angeles, Calif.
