COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's tennis team wrapped up day three of play at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regionals Saturday in Champaign, Ill. Senior Fidan Manashirova advanced to the round of 16 in the singles main draw and the Buckeye duo of sophomore Kelsey Dieters and senior Kara Cecil will play in the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw after a third-round win.
Action will continue at 10 a.m. CT Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Manashirova defeated Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan, 6-3, 6-3 and will face Matea Cutura of DePaul next. Dieters and Cecil defeated Brittany Wowchuck and Alicia Barnett of Northwestern, 8-1, in the round of 16 and now will play Julie Sabacinski and Britney Sanders of Notre Dame at 9 a.m. CT Sunday.
The senior pair of Manashirova and Gabby Steele was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing their match against Jennifer Kelner and Chrissie McGaffigan of Notre Dame, 8-4. Steele notched a win vs. Rebeca Mitrea of DePaul in round one of main draw singles, 6-3, 6-2, but lost her second match to Brooke Bolender of Michigan, 6-1, 6-1.
Dieters defeated Katherine White of Notre Dame, 6-1, 6-4, in the opening round of main draw singles. However, Dieters could not overcome White's teammate Britney Sanders in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Redshirt freshman Nicole Flower lost to Hannah Berner of Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-2, in the first round of main draw singles after qualifiying Friday.
