Three Buckeyes Move On in ITA Midwest Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's tennis team opened competition at the 2013 ITA Midwest Regional Championships Thursday in Ann Arbor, Mich., with three Buckeyes still alive in the singles qualifying draw. Grâinne O'Neill, Ferny Angeles Paz and Sandy Niehaus will compete for a berth in singles main draw at 9 a.m. Friday. Ohio State and DePaul are the only programs with three representatives remaining in the singles qualifiying draw.
After a first round bye, O'Neill topped Michigan State's Emily Meyers in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Niehaus, who also received a first-round bye, recorded a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, victory vs. Spartan Athena Troiullot.
Angeles Paz posted back-to-back wins to earn a chance at clinching a spot in the singles main draw. After defeating Wisconsin's Anastasia Trpolsykak in three sets, the Lima, Peru, native notched a 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, victory vs. IPFW's Mayu Sato. Senior Noelle Malley fell to Wisconsin's Sydney Rider, 0-6, 7-6, 6-2.
