COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's tennis team concluded play at the Akron Invitational Sunday at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Akron, Ohio. The Buckeyes totaled 19 wins on the weekend, including 12 singles victories and seven doubles wins in the hidden dual tournament.

Freshmen Gabriella De Santis collected a team-best six wins on the weekend, including three singles victories in straight sets at the No. 1 position. Cincinnati, Ohio, native Sandy Niehaus recorded a 5-0 record, while redshirt sophomore Nicole Flower posted a 4-0 ledger playing on days one and two.

Ohio State notched a perfect end to the weekend, collecting six wins in all six matches played. In the doubles competition vs. West Virginia, the freshmen duo of De Santis and Niehaus notched an 8-4 victory over Hailey Barrett and Ikttesh Chahal, while Miho Kowase and Grâinne O'Neill defeated Kaja Mrgole and Oana Manole, 8-5. Court three did not play.

In singles competition against host Akron, the freshmen Buckeyes took matches on courts one through four in straight sets. De Santis topped Ksenia Berestetska, 6-2, 6-3. Kowase posted a 6-0, 6-3, victory over Madison Cohen, while teammate Niehaus tabbed a 6-2, 6-4 win on court three. Ferny Angeles Paz added a 6-2, 6-0, victory vs. Marta Briega, 6-2, 6-0, to collect her second singles victory of the tournament. Courts five and six did not play. 



Up next, Ohio State will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Oct. 10-14.
