COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior Fidan Manashirova led the way for the Ohio State women's tennis team Saturday at the 2012 Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational, posting two wins to reach the singles semifinals. She will take on Louisville's Becca Shine at 10:30 Sunday for a spot in the final. The championship match will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. The tournament is being held for the second straight year at the Country Club at Muirfield Village.
Buckeye senior Gabby Steele also posted a win in the round of 16 before falling to Bowling Green's Emily Reuland in a super tiebreaker in the quarterfinals, 0-6, 6-4, 14-12. Manashirova topped Amandine Faouzi of Eastern Kentucky in straight sets in the Round of 16 before rallying for a super tiebreaker victory over Manuela Velasquez of Louisville in the quarterfinals (3-6, 6-4, 10-8).
Steele and Manashirova reached the semifinals of the doubles draw, topping a duo from Kentucky Saturday morning, 8-4. Under the lights Saturday night, the Bowling Green pair of Chiricosta and Reuland prevailed over the Buckeye senior tandem, 8-6.
Buckeyes Nicole Flower and Noelle Malley both won in back draw singles after falling in the Round of 16. Malley defeated Kentucky's Stephanie Fox in a super tiebreaker after losing the first set (5-7, 6-4, 10-7) and Flower topped Signe Lazdina of Akron in straight sets.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
