COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State women's tennis team combined for six singles wins and three doubles victories on Day 1 of the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Classic at the Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
In singles, No. 3 seed Kelsey Dieters, No. 4 seed Fidan Manashirova, No. 5-8 seed Gabby Steele and Noelle Malley all won in straight sets. Redshirt freshman Nicole Flower rallied after dropping the first set for a win in a super tiebreaker for her first collegiate victory. Kelsey Becker won a play-in match vs. Akron but lost in the Round of 16 in a super tiebreaker.
In doubles, Manashirova and Steele, the tournament's top seed, defeated Eastern Kentucky, 8-3, while Flower and Dieters also topped a team from EKU, 9-7. Malley and Kelsey Becker won against Cincinnati in a play-in match before falling in a tiebreaker to a team from Kentucky.
Tournament play continues Saturday, starting with doubles at 9 a.m. and will include both main draw and consolation action. The brackets below have times for all matches.
