Ohio State Sweeps Syracuse and Youngstown State

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 71 Ohio State women’s tennis earned a 4-0 victory over Syracuse and a 7-0 win over Youngstown State at the Varsity Tennis Center Friday in its first home games of 2014.
The Buckeyes faced off against Syracuse first. On court three, the Ohio State freshman duo of Ferny Angeles Paz and Kowase tallied a 6-0 victory, while sophomore Grainne O’Neill and senior Noelle Malley posted a 6-2 victory on court one. In singles, freshman Sandy Niehaus, redshirt sophomore Nicole Flower and freshman Kowase collected wins for the Buckeyes, with each winning in straight sets.
Singles competition on courts one, three and four and doubles competition on court two was suspended once the Buckeyes clinched the victory.
The Buckeyes wrapped up the day vs. Youngstown State in their Buckeyes Go Pink Match.
The duo of senior Kelsey Becker and Flower took a 6-1 victory on court three, as did the tandem of freshman Gabriella De Santis and Niehaus on court one. The third doubles match, featuring Angeles Paz and Kowase, was suspended, 2-2, once the Buckeyes claimed victory.
In singles, Angeles Paz, O’Neill, Niehaus, Flower and Noelle Malley all won in straight sets, while Kowase won in a 10-6 super tiebreaker over Margarita Sadovnikov to complete the shutout.
Ohio State returns to action Feb. 21 when it hosts Tennessee in the Varsity Tennis Center.
