Buckeyes Open Home Slate with 7-0 Shutout of Toledo

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 58-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team (2-0) opened its home schedule with a 7-0 shutout of Toledo (0-1) Wednesday morning in the Ohio State University Varsity indoor Tennis Center. The match opened a doubleheader for the squad, which will take on Cincinnati at 6 p.m. Against the Rockets, Ohio State dropped just one doubles match and won five singles matches in straight sets.
Ohio State clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The tandem of seniors Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele dropped just one game against Lexy Pitt and Chrissy Coffman at No. 2. On court one, sophomore Kelsey Dieters and senior Kara Cecil topped the Rockets’ Silvia Carvajal and Pia Rygh, 8-2. Redshirt freshman Nicole Flower and junior Kelsey Becker had their rally fall short, losing to Mackenzie Bowman and Emily Mazzola, 8-6.
Ohio State claimed straight-set wins on courts one through five. Cecil dropped just one game in each set en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pitt on court two, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win by freshman Grainne O’Neill over Mazzola on court five. Steele was a 6-0, 6-1 victor against Bowman at No. 4 and at No. 3 Manashirova topped Coffman, 6-2, 6-4. Dieters held off Rygh on court one, 6-3, 6-3. To finish the match, and preserve the shutout, Dittmer came back after dropping the second set to defeat Katelyn Nguyen in a super tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (3).
