Buckeyes Off to Arizona for 2014 U.S. Senior National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State synchronized swimming team is prepped to wrap up the 2014 campaign at the 2014 U.S. Senior National Championships Friday and Saturday in Oro Valley, Ariz. The Buckeyes will compete in solo, duet and team competitions at the event in the Oro Valley Aquatic Center.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, April 11: Duet prelims (4:35 p.m.)
The Scarlet Team, which tied for second at the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Championships, will feature Chelsea Aton, Baranski, Morgan Boneberg, Davidson, Maryanko, Lauren Nicholson, Kate Spada, Khadija Zanotto and Hack. The Gray Team, comprised of Alexa Aton, Julia Gaylard, Natalie Gaylard, Sarah House, Amrian Johnson, Heidi Liou, Emily Muma, Jasmine Pulido and Samantha Golomb, is also slated to perform.
BUCKEYES WIN GOLD
Freshman Emma Baranski and senior Julia Gaylard were awarded gold medals at the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Championships March 21. With a mark of 82.5260, Baranski earned first place in Figures A, while Gaylard clinched the B Figures title with a score of 69.0526.
Six members of the Scarlet and Gray were recognized with U.S. All-America honors in Lorraine Hack, Emma Baranski, Elizabeth Davidson, Lauren Nicholson and Morgan Boneberg. Senior Yuliya Maryanko, who was named the Individual High Point champion at the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Championships, picked up All-Collegiate honors at the event along with Hack and Baranski.
FERNANDEZ NAMED 2014 U.S. COLLEGIATE CONTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR
Ohio State assistant coach Suzanna Fernandez was recognized as the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Contributor of the Year at the U.S. Collegiate Championships March 22. The former Suzanna Hyatt, Fernandez lettered for the Scarlet and Gray from 2000-03 and is in her second season as assistant coach for the Buckeyes.
YEAR IN REVIEW
Ohio State captured five first-place and two second-place finishes during the 2014 campaign. The Buckeyes won five consecutive meets to start the season, posting a season-high 97 points vs. William & Mary. With a score of 89.0 points, the squad earned second at the North Regional Championships in St. Louis, Mo. Most recently, the Scarlet and Gray collected four silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Championships to take second at the event.
LAST TIME OUT
At the 2013 edition of the U.S. Senior National Championships in Greensboro, N.C., the Buckeyes collected three second-place finishes in solo, duet and team competition to finish fourth overall. Yuliya Maryanko was awarded the Senior Individual High Point Award with a total of 15.5 points at the event.
Ohio State was crowned the U.S Senior National Champion in 2010-11 with a sweep of all routines at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
