Ohio State to Compete at U.S. Collegiate Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State synchronized swimming team is set to compete in the 2014 edition of the U.S. Collegiate Championships Thursday through Saturday at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. The championships, hosted by Miami University, will feature solo, duet, trio and team competitions with all finals on Saturday.

In its 37-year history, the Scarlet and Gray have clinched 28 U.S. Collegiate Championship titles, capturing the title in four of the last five years (2009-12).

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Thursday, March 20:
Solo, duet and trio semifinals
Friday, March 21: Team semifinals, Technical A, B, C, D competition
Saturday, March 22: Trio, duet, solo and team finals

THE FIELD
University of Arizona, Arizona State, Canisius College, Colorado State, Gator Synchro, University of Incarnate Word, Lindenwood University, Miami University, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, University of Richmond, Stanford University, Wheaton College, College of William & Mary will compete vs. the Buckeyes.

2013 U.S. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Scarlet and Gray notched a second-place finish at the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. Stanford snapped Ohio State's four year win streak by 19 points, while the Buckeyes collected three silver medals at the event.

The Buckeyes were awarded three silver medals in the event. Julia Gaylard notched a second-place finish in her B Figures routine Friday, while Yuliya Maryanko was awarded second-place in the solo competition Saturday with a score of 87.2375. The Scarlet Team, comprised of Chelsea Aton, Kayley Colville, Katie LaBounty, Maryanko, Lauren Nicholson, Paige Ramsey, Katie Spada and Khadija Zanotto, collected a silver medal with a score of 89.3625.

2013 U.S. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS HONORS
Former Buckeye Paige Ramsey was named the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Athlete of the Year, a prestigious award presented at the competition based on academics, athletics and service. The last Buckeye to earn this award was Becky Kim in 2009.

Chelsea Aton, Yuliya Maryanko, Lauren Nicholson, Khadija Zanotto, Katie Spada earned U.S. Collegiate All-America honors, while Aton and Heidi Liou were recognized as U.S. Collegiate Academic Team selections.

2014 SEASON SNAPSHOT
The Buckeyes hold a 14-1 record in the 2014 campaign with five first place finishes at the Ohio State Invitational, Jessica Beck Memorial Competition, Richmond, William & Mary and Incarnate Word and a silver medal at the North Regional Championships in St. Louis, Mo. Ohio State notched a season-high score of 97 points vs. William & Mary Feb. 8.  

UP NEXT
The Buckeyes will wrap up the 2014 season at the U.S. Senior National Championships April 8 in Oro Valley, Ariz.
