Buckeyes Kick Off U.S. Senior National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State synchronized swimming team began competition at the 2013 Swimoutlet.com U.S. Senior National Synchronized Swimming Championships Thursday in Greensboro, N.C. The Buckeyes participated in the solo, duet and team free routine preliminary events to begin the competition.
The competition Friday, which will begin at 9:20 a.m., will feature the solo, duet and team technical competitions. The eight highest scores (combined free and technical) will qualify for the finals Saturday. A live feed of the competition and results are available on the official website of USA Synchro, usasynchro.org.
In the solo competition, junior Yuliya Maryanko placed second with a score of 87.0500. Lindenwood's Mary Killman, who earned first place at the U.S. Collegiate Championships, was first with a score of 89.250. Kristine Irwin notched a 79.9750, while Heidi Liou, who was named to the 2013 U.S. Collegiate Academic Team, posted a score of 78.0750 in the solo competition.
2013 U.S. Collegiate Athlete of the Year Paige Ramsey paired up with Maryanko in the duet competition to place second with a score of 86.2550. The Buckeye duo is behind Lindenwood's Killman and Dennise Ramirez, who are in first with an 87.250. Samantha Golomb and Heidi Liou were awarded a score of 79.9875, while the Buckeye duo of Natalie Gaylard and Julia Gaylard tallied a score 78.1625.
The team routine competition concluded the afternoon and after all six teams completed their routines, the Buckeye Scarlet squad sits in third place after earning a mark of 86.6125. Swimming for the Scarlet team is Chelsea Aton, Colleen Courtmanche, Maryanko, Lauren Nicholson, Kayley Colville, Ramsey, Katie Spada and Khadija Zanotto.
