Ohio State Wins Season-Opening Invitational with 93 points

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State synchronized swimming team opened the 2013 season hosting the Ohio State Invitational Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes scored 93 points, while Miami University was second with 33.5 points and Ball State rounded out the Top 3 with 18 points.
The Scarlet and Gray return to action at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 when they host the Jessica Beck Memorial Meet.
Two-time collegiate national solo champion Yuliya Maryanko once again claimed first place in the solo routine with an 88.0. Teammate Kristine Irwin was second, scoring 79.170 points, followed by the RedHawks’ Erica Hegedus (67.500) and Rebecca Yoder (62.667).
Maryanko and Paige Ramsey paired up to form the only duet team that competed Saturday. The Buckeye duo scored an 84.333.
The afternoon concluded with the trio routine in which Buckeyes Maryanko, Ramsey and Lauren Nicholson came out on top, earning an 84.667. Fellow Buckeyes Katie Spada, Khadija Zanotto and Kayley Colville finished second (83.333). Competing as an honors trio, the Scarlet and Gray’s Samantha Golomb, Julia Gaylard and Natalie Gaylard notched a 78.833, while Ball State’s Nicole Winters, Jill Estes and Alyssa Harsough were fourth (55.167).
Earlier in the day, several Buckeyes competed in the technical portion of the event. Maryanko won the Technical A competition with an 80.935 and Julia Gaylard was crowned Technical B champion, scoring a 68.062.
