Buckeyes Win Season Opener with 94 Points at Ohio State Invitational
COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State synchronized swimming team opened the 2014 season hosting the Ohio State Invitational Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes scored 94 points, while the University of Michigan S.S. Club was second with 57.5 points, Miami University took third with 18 points and Ohio University finished with 15.5 points.
The Buckeyes return to action at 4 p.m. Feb. 1 in their second home meet of the season in McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Two-time collegiate national solo champion Yuliya Maryanko once again claimed first place in the solo routine with an 88.70. Michigan’s Shelby Peterson was second, scoring 69.15 points.
Maryanko paired with Elizabeth Davidson in the duet competition claiming first place with a score of 87.4. Finishing second with a score of 83.9 were fellow Buckeyes, Emma Baranski and Lorraine Hack. Competing in honorary routines were Ohio State’s Alexa Aton and Jasmine Pulido (82.0) and Paige Wells and Amrian Johnson (76.05). Rounding out the duet routine, Michigan’s Shelby Peterson and Jeanne Goodman finished third with a score of 62.35.
The afternoon concluded with the trio routine in which Buckeyes Chelsea Aton, Katie Spada and Lauren Nicholson claimed first place, earning an 84.7. Fellow Buckeyes, Samantha Golomb, Julia Gaylard and Natalie Gaylard finished second (81.85). Buckeyes Natalia Huibregtse, Emily Muma and Sarah House competed in an honorary routine and scored 79.05 points. Scoring a 56.25 and coming in third place was Miami University’s Martha Socki, Jesica Field and Megan Krach. With a score of 53.25 from the University of Michigan, Rita Zhao, Madeline Herman and Chloe Peck came in fourth place. Rounding out the event was the group of Allison Gens, Michelle Hanson and Paige Klatt from Ohio University with a score of 50.25 coming in fifth place.
Earlier in the day, Maryanko finished first in the A element technical competition with a score of 88.680. Julia Gaylard came in first in the B figures with a score of 73.071.
