No. 19 Ohio State in the National Rankings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team has positioned itself among the nation’s elite both individually and as a team just a month into the 2013-14 season.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Michelle Williams, Phoebe Cater, Aliena Schmidtke and Annie Jongekrijg finished in 1:34.43 against Virginia Tech, Cleveland State and Denison on Nov. 1, which is currently the 13th fastest time this season.
Williams also has two highly-ranked times in freestyle events – against Virginia Tech, Cleveland State and Denison, she clocked a 23.11 in the 50 freestyle (24th nationally) and a 50.08 in the 100 freestyle (26th nationally).
Senior Alex Norris, a Cincinnati native, has a top-20 performances to her credit – against Purdue and Northwestern on Nov. 8, she swam a 4:49.22 in the 500 freestyle. In the 1000 freestyle, Kelly Ann Baird went 9:53.40 in the same meet, which is also ranked 18th.
As a team, the Buckeyes (7-1) are currently 19th in the CSCAA NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving rankings. Ohio State is one of seven Big Ten schools in the poll, along with Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan.
The Buckeyes return to action next weekend when they host the eight-annual Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational at The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Participating teams include fifth-ranked Florida, 12th-ranked Virginia, 16th-ranked Purdue and Kentucky. Action gets underway on Friday, Nov. 22, and continues through Sunday, Nov. 24. Admission is free.
