Buckeyes Represent at 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's swimming and diving team was well-represented at the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships, with a group of six current and former Buckeyes making waves at the premier meet. Competing Aug. 6-10 in Irvine, Calif., the contingent earned Top 50 performances in nine individual events overall.

Rising sophomore Lindsey Clary continued to showcase her development with a 36th-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:55.34). Swimming in four events overall, she complimented that performance with a 40th-place showing in the 800 freestyle (8:50.41), 52nd-place touch in the 400 freestyle (4:21.18) and 35th-place finish in the 1500 freestyle (17:13.31).

Joining Clary in the 400 freestyle was recent graduate Alex Norris. Norris posted a time of 4:18.11 for 39th in the event. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native also raced in the 200 freestyle, touching 39th with a time of 2:02.93.

Showing off Ohio State's depth in breaststroke events were senior Ashley Vance as well as sophomores Amy Bopp and Taylor Vargo. The trio first competed in the 200 breaststroke, with Bopp earning the top time of 2:36.15 for 51st. In the 50 breaststroke, Vance touched 41st, while Vargo and Bopp followed in 53rd and 56th, respectively. The 100 breaststroke event resulted in a 41st-place finish for Bopp (1:11.47).


 

 

Saving the best for last, Vance rounded out her performance with an Ohio State varsity record in the 200 individual medley. Finishing in 2:17.29, she earned 24th place with the effort.

Kaitlyn Ferrara, a rising sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, held strong in the 200 backstroke, taking 38th in 2:16.35.
