Zeren, Vargo Open Speedo Sectionals in Columbus with Records
Zeren posts a record-breaking mark in the 200 backstroke, while Vargo follows with a new mark in the 200 breaststroke

Buckeyes Taylor Vargo and Zulal Zeren got off to a fast start Wednesday morning at the 2015 Speedo Sectionals, hosted by the Ohio State Swim Club at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Scheduled to take place July 22-25, the meet is part of the Speedo Champions Series, which joins some of the top swimming talent in the United States in several stops throughout the year.
Zeren, who was recently named to the Turkish National Team for the 2015 FINA World Championships, posted a school record-breaking time of 2:13.6 in the 200 backstroke. The time was also a Turkish national record. A native of Istanbul, Turkey, Zeren will travel to Kazan, Russia to compete at the FINA World Championships, July 24-Aug. 9.
Vargo was another standout for the Scarlet and Gray, dropping the Buckeye long course record to 2:28.9 in the 200 breaststroke.
Both will return to contest in finals, Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
