COLUMBUS, Ohio -Ohio State junior diver Cheyenne Cousineau finished seventh in the women's synchronized 10-meter finals Monday at the FINA World Aquatic Championships. Alongside fellow Ohioan Murphy Bromberg, the pair scored 301.74 points in their first world championships, while China's Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia claimed the gold with 356.28 points.

Cousineau and Bromberg advanced to the finals after finishing ninth in the morning prelims. They improved their score in the finals by 16.59 points. Cousineau gained valuable experience at the elite international level that she will bring back to Columbus this fall for the Buckeyes.

"We were a little nervous in the preliminaries. Once we were in the finals, we knew we could enjoy ourselves. The pressure was off once we made finals," Cousineau said. "Being on this stage was a great experience. You have to learn to not let the pressure get to you. It's just another meet."

Bromberg and Cousineau were in 10th place with 90.60 points after the two voluntary rounds in the finals. Three solid optional dives - including 75.24 points on a back 3 ½ tuck and 72 points on a back 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists in the last two rounds - pushed them up to seventh in the final standings.

"Representing Team USA is an incredible feeling and to see the best in the world training and competing all around you is amazing," Cousineau said. "As a synchro pair and individually we have gained so much. Being here in Barcelona we were able see what we need to go home and work on in order to be in contention for medals."

Cousineau is no stranger to elite diving competitions. Most recently, she competed at the 2012 AT&T National Diving Championships where she placed third in the synchronized 10-meter platform event. As a Buckeye, Cousineau's accolades thus far include winning the 2012 Big Ten Championship on the 10-meter dive as well as earning All-America accolades at the 2013 NCAA Championships.
