May 23, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's swimming head coach Bill Dorenkott and diving head coach Justin Sochor announced the Buckeyes' 2014-15 schedule on Friday. The competitive slate includes 10 home events at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, including the 2015 Big Ten Championships, which will be held Feb. 18-21.
“I like the schedule we have put together as it allows our staff ample opportunities to gauge performance in our lead up to the Big Ten’s and NCAA’s,” said Dorenkott. “In particular, the multi-day meets are a good way to prepare for the grit that is required to be a champion.”
Ohio State will kick off the season on the road at the Notre Dame Dennis Stark Relays Friday, Oct. 10. The Buckeyes return home for the Scarlet vs. Gray exhibition (Oct. 17), which is followed by a dual with Miami on Thursday, Oct. 23. The Buckeyes then welcome Cleveland State and perennial Division III power Kenyon to McCorkle on Oct. 30 and 31, respectively.
The month of November begins with a two-day tri-meet against Princeton and Denison Nov. 7-8. The Buckeyes then have the next week off before hosting one of the annual highlights of their schedule, the Ohio State invitational. This year’s invite will take place Nov. 21-23 and feature Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Kenyon.
Ohio State will be on hiatus during the month of December from dual meet competition, but the Scarlet and Gray will take part in the USA Swimming Nationals Dec. 4-6 in Greensboro, N.C. Following winter break, Ohio State will return to competition at Toledo (Jan. 16). The Buckeyes remain on the road the next weekend as it tangles with Big Ten-foes Michigan State (Jan. 23) and Michigan (Jan. 24). The Buckeyes return home on Jan. 30 for a dual meet with West Virginia.
The Scarlet and Gray will once again close the regular season with the Ohio State Invitational, Feb. 14-15. Following the invitational, Ohio State will host the Big Ten Championships Feb. 18-21. Prelim action gets underway at 11 a.m. with the finals commencing at 6 p.m. each day. The Buckeyes have not hosted the conference championship meet since 2008.
The NCAA Last Chance Meet is scheduled for March 1. Qualified swimmers and divers then have the opportunity to travel to the 2015 NCAA Championships, taking place March 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C.
Last season, Ohio State maintained a five-year run of top-five Big Ten finishes with a fourth-place effort. At the meet, Ashley Vance, who will be a senior in 2014-15, became the Buckeyes’ first conference champion in the 200 individual medley since 1988 on her way to earning first team All-Big Ten honors. Overall, Ohio State set four school records and had three top-three finishes.
